About Samuel
Trained as a classical organist, Samuel focuses on improvisation and composition, influenced by jazz and contemporary music.
In the summer of 2023, Samuel shared 1st prize in the St. Albans International Organ Improvisation Competition. In 2021, he was selected for The Diapason's “20 Under 30,” a distinguished list of young leaders in the organ world.
Samuel is active as a collaborative musician, performing often with mezzo-soprano Jacquelyn Matava. In 2022, Samuel released a premiere recording of William Albright's Valley of Fire in collaboration with the Aruna Saxophone Quartet.
As composer, recent works include Berceuse, for mezzo-soprano and piano, Stained Glass Suite, for solo cello. As arranger, Samuel created an organ part for César Franck's famous Violin Sonata in A major and arranged Bach's Passacaglia for jazz quartet.
After his studies with Jesse Eschbach at the University of North Texas, Samuel received a 2022-23 Fulbright study grant to France, where he was artist-in-residence for three years at the Fondation des États-Unis. During this time, he finished two Artist Diplomas at the Conservatoire à rayonnement régional de Versailles: in organ with Jean-Baptiste Robin, and in jazz studies with Sylvain Beuf and Damien Argentieri.
Samuel is currently professor of classical and jazz piano at the Ecole de musique in Le Chesnay-Rocquencourt and accompanist for the Paris Choral Society. He is Organist at the American Church in Paris.
